Man, I have to say there was just so much awesome going on in this shoot! First, the urban location was a super fun change of pace for me. And the when they showed up styled perfectly--- I mean down to the little gold boots little Miss R. was wearing, I couldn't wait to start shooting!
And these kiddos were ready to have fun! It's not easy being in a downtown location with cars driving every which way and three little ones all heading opposite directions, but Mom and Dad didn't let any of that spoil the fun! One thing I tell parents who seem uptight during the shoot is to JUST BREATHE. Try and relax and smile. The chaos is fun for me and the kids will all have natural smiles and genuine expressions if the parents just let loose a little. So often parents get caught up in trying to get perfect pictures, but really, isn't the perfect picture a shot of your little one shrieking with glee or being their silly self? Aren't those the moments that you want captured instead of everyone sitting stoically staring at a camera with a perma-smile? I know those are the pictures I love the most. Often, no one is looking at the camera, but instead everyone is looking at each other, and the connection between each other is where there is beauty.
These littles did such an awesome job of making the shoot fun for everyone and I was thankful for that, because aside from taking the shots, I was pretty worthless. I started to lose my voice that morning and by the time of the shoot, it was completely gone. I could hardly even project a whisper, so giving any type of direction was totally out of the question!
Needless to say, I again loved meeting this new SKP family and I can't wait for the next opportunity to work with them-- it wont be soon enough! <3 XOXOXO Steph
